The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies Trailer

|

We’re about half way through summer and before you know it December will be here along with Peter Jackson’s final film in The Hobbit series “The Battle of the Five Armies.” As with any critically acclaimed and cherished book series there will always be those who love and hate the film adaptation. Having read the Lord of the Rings as well as The Hobbit, I know that much of the films’ scripts are not always true to the books themselves, and for many that’s a real problem. I completely understand their reasoning behind it and in no way fault them for being critical of what Peter Jackson and company have done with Tolkien’s works.

Personally, I view film as a very different medium in which to tell a story. What works well in a book story doesn’t always translate over to film. I think that’s some of the case with what Peter Jackson was working with here not to mention the books length, if Jackson had remained true to the book page-by-page we could have had a movie every year for the next 15 years (if not more). Now I’m sure there will be those who will say that Jackson could have included some key characters and scenes that wouldn’t have made the films that much longer and to that I say, then you go make the films!

I’ve thrown my money at every Peter Jackson (Tolkien) film, and this time around will be no different. I’m heading to the theater for this one and I am excited! I love everything about Jackson’s cinematography, story telling and directing. When I go to see these films I’m going with an open mind knowing that the film maker will likely miss some things that probably could have or should have been there. But I’m OK with that. Why? Because there’s no way I could ever make these books come to life, and I’m just very happy someone has done that for me. See you at the movies December 17th!
