Samsung Accuses LG Of Playing Dirty With Washing Machines

Most people are fairly aware that both Samsung and LG make consumer electronics, cellular phones, televisions, blu-ray players and more. But not everyone is aware that both companies also make appliances like refrigerators and washing machines. As a matter of fact, at CES 2014, both companies showed off several smart appliances that are designed to make home life easier by connecting with your smartphone.

Now Samsung has accused LG of damaging their washing machines at a retail store in Germany and is asking for an official investigation into the matter.

In a statement Sunday, Samsung said it had asked the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office to investigate executives from a Korean company who were seen deliberately destroying its washing machines displayed at retail stores in Berlin. A Samsung spokesman confirmed that the Korean company referred to was LG.

LG denied Samsung’s claim and said the executives inadvertently damaged the doors of two washing machines in one store because the model in question had weak hinges. LG said the incidents occurred as the executives had sought to examine products made by Samsung and other rivals.

Samsung stands firm that LG have other nefarious reasons and accuses LG of maligning Samsung’s image by claiming they make defective machines. LG has also fired back saying they hope this is not a rouse to damage LG’s reputation. Competition in the consumer electronics world is always fierce and apparently even fiercer in the consumer appliance world. What do you think of all this dirty laundry?
