In a recent post on their Star Wars blog, Disney revealed that they have bumped up their online debut of the upcoming Disney XD movie Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion another four days for those with a verified cable package that includes the channel. If you are one of those verified viewers you will have the opportunity to watch the intro to the animated series connecting the events of Star Wars Episodes III and IV a week before it debuts on Disney XD on October 3rd.
Much like the 90-minute film that preceeded Star Wars: The Clone Wars in 2008, Spark of Rebellion is a precursor to the events that will occur in the Disney XD animated series. So far what we know about the series and short film is that they take place after the Jedi were assumed to be wiped out in Episide III (spoilers I guess if you haven’t seen a 5+ year old movie?) and follows a group of Jedi that survived the onslaught of “Order 66”.
How well done the short will be is still up in the air, but if it ends up being sub-par, don’t worry too much about Rebels as a whole. Star Wars: The Clone Wars was pretty bad too, but it’s subsequent animated series really picked up the slack and turned into a decent little cartoon. And this was all prior to Disney even owning the Star Wars name, so you can bet there will be at least a bit more polish and maybe even some Disney flair this time around.
The short film and the series itself are bringing some decent voice acting talent with the likes of Steve Blum (Cowboy Bebop, Leelo & Stitch, Digimon) and Vanessa Marshall (Bill & Mandy, Metal Gear Solid series), and Freddy Prince Jr voicing some of the main characters.
If you want to get in on the early viewing, be sure to confirm your Disney XD subscription at WATCHDisneyXD.com and/or a mobile app to catch it when it becomes available on September 26th.[button type=”link” link=”http://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-rebels-spark-of-rebellion-to-debut-early-on-watch-disney-xd?linkId=9739035″ variation=”btn-danger” target=”blank”]Source: Star Wars[/button]
