Marvel Makes Massive Release Date Announcement For Phase Three Movies

, ,

Hold on to your hats Marvel fans, as earlier today Marvel Studios’ Patrick Cavanaugh and Ryan Penagos liveblogged the event announcing the studio’s phase three movie release dates. These include Captain America 3 on May 6, 2016, Doctor Strange on November 4, 2016, unnamed Guardians of the Galaxy sequel May 5, 2017, Thor 3 on July 28, 2017, Black Panther on November 3, 2017, Captain Marvel on July 6, 2018, Inhumans on November 2, 2018, and Avengers: Infinity War parts one and two scheduled for May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019.

This is huge news for Marvel fans as rumors of the studio’s phase three plan have been running rampant in the past few months with fans questioning what characters they will bring to the stage, what the storylines will revolve around, how it will all tie together, and who will play it all.

It is apparent that the civil war theme is definitely the way the studio will be going with all of their characters. This is evidenced by Captain America 3’s title: Civil War, along with the third Avengers’ movie (which the studio confirmed will be split into two movies) sporting the “Infinity War” title.

The tension that is being portrayed between Iron Man and Captain America in clips of the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron is palpable and has seemingly been what Marvel Studios has planned all along. As Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige stated:

[…] we’ve always had a plan…the beginning of a culmination of everything that has come before

Among the announcements was the news that Doctor Strange will be directed by Scott Derrickson, Thor 3’s title will be Thor: Ragnarok (which means The End of All Things), Black Panther will be played by Chadwick Boseman (42, Get on Up), and Captain Marvel, who has had many identities over the course of his lifetime, will be named Carol Danvers in the upcoming movie.

Ryan Penagos (@AgentM) live-tweeted all of the titles’ artwork with release dates while Cavanaugh covered the information being revealed at the event.
