Guillermo del Toro’s script for Dark Justice is completed and in the hands of Warner Bros, according to Forbes. The long speculated film adaption of DC Comic’s Justice League Dark may finally be making the jump to the big screen after dropping out of the public eye for a few months now.

In its comic book form, Justice League Dark are the ghost hunters of the DC Universe consisting of John Constantine, Madame Xanadu, Shade, and others. But, unlike terrible cable TV shows in the real world where they find a chair that shifts slightly in a dark room, this offshoot of The Justice League tracks down real horrors of the world such as Swamp Thing. The series has been running in print since 2011.

Rumors of del Toro bringing the comic book team life to have been around as early as 2012, when he was believed to be working on a project titled Heaven Sent. In 2013 the first rumors of Heaven Sent being an honest to goodness Justice League Dark adaptation started to come to life, and it received the moniker Dark Justice which is where it stands today.

It is also possible that Warner Bros was purposefully delaying the project until it could get a few characters established first. While Guardians of the Galaxy proved that you can turn a group of nobody a-holes into a $330 million money factory, it may not be a risk worth taking. The successful Constantine on NBC may just be the push the studio needs to decide they have an established-enough character for the movie to move forward. Especially since Justice Dark likely wouldn’t be out until late 2015 or beyond – giving Constantine a full year of run time to grow on audiences.

If they are going that route, it’ll be interesting to see if the movie keeps on Matt Ryan as John Constantine or if he gets recast. We already know that DC’s Flash movie will be using a different actor than its TV show counterpart, but Constntine has a much more cinematic feel to it, so it may work to keep Ryan on. Not to mention the fact that he is absolutely killing it as the sarcastic exorcist every Friday.

Guillermo del Toro is also the perfect fit for a darker comic book movie with demon influences. He’s already brought a conceptually similar comic book to life in the form of Hellboy, and he got his name into mainstream popularity with 2013 alien robot punching fest Pacific Rim. If anyone can do the grim and moody series justice on the big screen, it is del Toro.

Combine an established John Constantine, the skill of Guillermo del Toro and the fact that horror movies are almost guaranteed to make a good amount of money, and you have the perfect storm for another successful comic book movie.

Hurry up and approve that bad boy, Warner Bros!
