Pixar President Jim Morris spilled the beans on some plot details for one of Disney’s two new films coming out next year, Finding Dory. The plot of the upcoming sequel to 2003’s Finding Nemo was revealed by Morris at the Comic Con Experience Brazil, as initially reported by Comic Book Movie.
According to those reports, Finding Dory will follow our intrepid blue heroine, voiced by Ellen Degeneres, as she explores around the Marine Institue of California. Dory will eventually learn that she was born and raised in this complex, and will spend the duration of the movie discovering her parents as well as herself. During this time, Dory will be joined by Finding Nemo familiars Marlin and now found Nemo, as well as a select new group of characters. Among the new characters will be an octopus, sea lions, a beluga whale, and others.
From what we know, Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy will be voicing the parts of Dory’s parents, and Ty Burrell will be the voice of the aforementioned beluga whale, who is named Bailey. Also involved in the film in an unknown capacity will be Idris Elba and Dominic West. They’d make an interesting sea lion pair at the very least, if it comes to that.
Setting Finding Dory in the more enclosed Institute of California could lead to a much more personal story without needing to traverse the entire ocean like the first film did. Finding Nemo was loaded with original and interesting characters as the main trio made their way around the ocean and survived in the dentists office, and it’s looking like Finding Dory could be another solid hit for Disney Pixar.
Finding Dory is scheduled to be released June 17, 2016.
