Marvel has released a behind-the-scenes featurette previewing their upcoming miniseries Agent Carter. The short video shows off several action-packed clips from the show, with some interview segments from star Hayley Atwell.
Agent Peggy Carter was original introduced to the current Marvel Cinematic universe in Captain America: The First Avenger as Steve Rogers’ love interest. She also played a part in its sequel, The Winter Soldier as she helped Cap get over the death of a friend. The ABC show Agent Carter will take place in between the two films, roughly one year after The First Avenger. Carter plays a double agent between her work at Strategic Scientific Reserve, and helping Tony Stark’s father, Howard Stark, who is not exactly on friendly terms with SSR. The show promises to delve into the mental toll that working as a double agent takes on someone’s psyche.
There is also heavy speculation (it might be safe to just call it fan desire at this point) that it could be revealed throughout the course of the miniseries that Agent Carter is in fact Tony Stark’s mother. It would fit the cinematic timeline for the most part, and it would make sense with the characters that they might fall in love during Captain America’s absence and presumed death. It will be interesting what other, if any, ties Agent Carter will have to other Marvel cinematic properties, as she helped found S.H.I.E.L.D. itself.
The pilot for Agent Carter is being written by Marvel cinematic familiars Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The talented duo wrote both Captain America films, as well as Thor: The Dark World, and they are also currently working on writing the screenplay for Captain America: Civil War. It is set to air during Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’s usual slot, as the show is on hiatus for a mid-season finale. Be sure to tune in for the two hour premiere on January 6th at 8:00 PM Eastern Time, as well as our review the morning after.
