The third season of the Netflix exclusive House of Cards is set to drop on February 27th, and a new high stakes trailer has just been released.
SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t seen Season 1 or 2, and if you haven’t yet I highly recommend you go and catch up on Netflix now.
The trailer starts with one of my favorite Kevin Spacey style shots where he’s looking down and then slowly lifts his head to look straight at the audience. This time he’s doing so from behind the President’s desk in the Oval Office, a position he took over at the end of the second season. The trailer features Spacey’s signature Frank Underwood soliloquy asking the viewer if they “want to know what takes real courage”, and continues through a montage of scenes from the upcoming season. The choice of music in the trailer – “Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums” by A Perfect Circle – is not only fitting to the story so far, but definitely adds a frantic dramatic tone to the flurry of scenes, fading out just before a final simple exchange between Spacey and Robin Wright who plays his wife Claire.
