Microsoft Only Sold 300 Xbox One Consoles In Japan Last Week

No, we didn’t forget any zeroes on that number – Microsoft’s flagship console only sold a minuscule 300 units over the span of a week in Japan. To be fair, Xbox consoles have never fared well in Japan to begin with and likely never will with the entire country remaining loyal to the other major console companies, Nintendo and Sony, who are based out of the country. But this is a new low, even for Xbox.
Lack of sales in Japan is one issue that has plagued the Xbox One dating all the way back to the console’s release in October of 2014. During that first month, the console averaged around 500 a week, and it hasn’t improved much since. Microsoft themselves even addressed the issue and noted that they were not satisfied with the console’s launch when it first happened.
For a bit of perspective, the PlayStation 4 sold 15,480 units during the week, and Nintendo’s new 3DS XL sold a little over 25,000. Even the PlayStation Vita TV, which is also floundering worldwide, managed to double the Xbox One’s sales and pushed out 682 units over. The full list of software and hardware charts can be seen below, courtesy of Gematsu.
