For those looking for a more rugged laptop, Panasonic has announced updates to its flagship rugged laptop, the Toughbook 31. The Toughbook series offers rugged portable computing solutions for those who need it in all sorts of extreme environments, from emergency service professionals to utility workers and other professions.
The Toughbook 31 has been updated with:
- An 18-hour battery life – 27 hours with optional second battery
- A new 5th gen Intel Core i5 processor plus Intel HD Graphics 5500
- design that withstands a 6-foot drop and is certified to pass 19 different MIL-STD-810G tests
The rugged laptop also features:
- shock-mounted, flex-connect quick-release hard drive
- sunlight-viewable touchscreen;
- and a full magnesium alloy case with handle
The Toughbook 31 is also compatible with existing vehicle docks used for previous Toughbooks, which allows customers to upgrade without having to replace vehicle docks.
This rugged performance laptop isn’t cheap though and will set you back at least $3,699 when it becomes available in February, but it is backed by a three-year limited warranty.

The updated Toughbook 31 offers up to 18 hours1 of standard battery life – 27 hours1 with an optional second battery – as well as improved connectivity and significant performance boosts over the previous model. Powered by the new Intel® Core™ i5-5300U vPro™ processor, (3 MB cache, 2.3 GHz up to 2.9 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology) the updated Toughbook 31 delivers desktop-class performance alongside its world-class reliability.
