The Powerpuff Girls Reboot Is Officially Coming To Cartoon Network In 2016

|

Sugar, spice, and everything reboot – the Powerpuff Girls are back! Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup will be making a return on Cartoon Network sometime next year, Cartoon Network’s parent company Turner Broadcasting announced.
The trio of sugar-coated superheros first appeared on Cartoon Network in 1998 and ran for 72-episodes over the course of six seasons. During that time it snagged two Emmy Awards and managed to win over fans of all ages, male and female. Despite being a show centered around three adorable little girls beating up bad guys, its clever writing and great action managed to make it endearing even the most awkwardly masculine of teenage boys in the late ’90s.
Back in 2008, the show celebrated its 10th anniversary with a 30-minute special titled The Powerpuff Girls Rule!!! despite the show having been off the air for four years at that point. There was also a CGI special, The Powerpuff Girls: Dance Pantsd, which aired on Cartoon Network in January of last year, and even received added promotion from ex-Beatles star Ringo Starr who sang a new original song titled “I Wish I Was A Powerpuff Girl.”
No, really.

News of a Powerpuff Girls reboot date back to June 2014 when Cartoon Network tentatively announced plans to do so. As it was also announced in June that Nick Jennings from Adventure Time, another Cartoon Network show, will serve as executive producer for the new series.
So far there is no word on what kind of art style the show will take – whether it stick closer to the hand-drawn look of the original or the more modern look of Dants Panstd – or what voice actors will be used for the characters.
Along with announcing The Powerpuff Girls reboot, Cartoon Network announced another new series, We Bare Bears, that will follow three bear siblings attempting to fit into human society. Eleven currently-running shows were also officially renewed on the network:

  • Adventure Time
  • The Amazing World of Gumball
  • Clarence
  • Regular Show
  • Teen Titans GO!
  • Uncle Grandpa
  • Steven Universe
  • Mixels
  • LEGO® NINJAGO: Masters of Spinjitzu
  • Pokémon the Series:XY
  • Sonic Boom
