Yesterday Kevin Smith tweeted out some encouraging news for Clerks fans, as the director confirmed that he’ll finally complete the trilogy with Clerks III filming beginning this May. Also in that tweet was the announcement that Moose Jaws, the final part of his horror trilogy – following Tusk and the upcoming Yoga Hosers – will begin shooting in September. And finally, to end it all, was the innocent phrase “I smell a rat…”.
We shoot CLERKS III in May. HIT SOMEBODY shoots September to Christmas. Then in Feb 2016, we do MOOSE JAWS. But after that? I smell a rat…

Naturally, that means Mallrats to any Kevin Smith fan, and he confirmed it while appearing on public radio earlier today.
Smith made his name with the first Clerks movie in 1994, which he created, wrote, and directed with a minuscule budget less than a quarter of a million dollars. Clerks II rolled around more than a decade later in 2006 and wasn’t received quite as favorably as the first cult hit.
Mallrats on the other hand, could also be considered a cult hit but it never received the same level of critical success that Clerks did. This sequel to the 1995 movie will begin filming twenty years after the original. As of yet there is no word on if Mallrats stars Shannen Doherty, Jason Lee, Ben Affleck, or Jason Mewes will be involved.
