Live-Action Beauty And The Beast Officially Coming March 2017, Emma Thompson Added To Cast List

The cast of Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast is beginning to take shape. Back in January we broke news of Emma Watson announcing her role as Belle in the classic tale, and since then a lot of other major cast roles have been revealed as well. Along with several iconic characters having their parts cast, we now know that the Bill Condon-directed film will be landing in theaters on March 17, 2017.
Playing opposite of Emma Watson will be Dan Stevens and Luke Evans as The Beast and Gaston, respectively. Evans’ latest big screen performance was as Bard the Bowman in 2014”s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, and Stevens recently played Sir Lancelot in the third installment of Night at the Museum series. Dan Stevens was also the voice on another Disney-owned production, Once Upon A Time: Wicked Is Coming, as the TV movie’s narrator.

Another recent addition was Frozen voice actor Josh Gad, who will be playing Gaston’s bumbling sidekick, LeFou.
The newest cast members, as Disney announced early Monday, are veteran actors Emma Thompson and Kevin Kline. Emma Thompson, a veteran British actress who played Sybil Trelawney in the Harry Potter franchise among many other great roles in her lifetime, will be playing one of the many talking objects in The Beast’s castle, Mrs. Potts. Belle’s father, Maurice, will be played by Kevin Kline.
Disney should have no fear going into this latest live-action adaptation of an animated film, as Cinderella opened to the tune of $70 million this past weekend.
Beauty and the Beast‘s score will be done by the same Oscar-winning composer who worked on the first animated film in 1991, Alan Menken. Bill Condon is set to direct the film, with Stephen Chbosky penning the script.
