Snuza Hero Review: Cordless Portable Baby Movement Monitor

|
, ,

As a parent of five children I know what it’s like to worry about your baby sleeping alone down the hall and worrying about SIDS or something else happening to our baby. There are baby monitors galore on the market already and even video monitors and apps for your tablets and smartphones. While sound monitors, apps and video work for some there are other alternatives for baby monitoring and this is the Snuza Hero review.

Design

The Snuza Hero is about the size of an old style Apple remote but just slightly bulkier. It’s lightweight and comes with its own plastic carrying case when not in use, very easy to throw into a diaper bag. The construction is plastic but feels very solid and premium. The tip is a very soft rubber that is very easy on the baby’s skin and tummy. The clip is robust and sturdy and designed to stay put on the diaper you clip it on. Overall it’s a well thought out design with maximum portability, really well done.

Performance

The Snuza Hero is a pretty simple device to set up, the instructions are pretty clear and concise and once I had it working I put it on the baby’s diaper. The Snuza works by monitoring your baby’s movement pattern using a sensor in the rubber tip of the device. The Snuza is clipped on the diaper and the tip rests on the baby’s tummy, if the Snuza doesn’t detect movement within 20 seconds it will sound an alarm to alert you that there is a problem. Thankfully our baby kept moving just fine without issue so we experienced no alarms. But I did try to make it alarm using it on myself and it does indeed work and the alarm is pretty loud and effective. Biosentronics cc the makers of the Snuza Hero, also give a 12 month guarantee on their product including the batteries that run it. Overall the Snuza Hero seemed to work exactly as advertised, I’m grateful that I only had to test the alarm out on myself and not on our baby.

Overall

While I think traditional sound monitors and newer video monitors are still a great way to keep tabs on your baby it does make sense that those methods won’t catch if your baby has stopped moving. Priced at $119.99 at Babies ‘R Us the Snuza Hero is a definite consideration for any parent to add to their baby stock. While it’s not cheap it does provide another level of awareness to you as a parent and could also be the saving grace if anything should happen. When a baby stops moving seconds are precious and the quicker you find out the better it is for everyone. I think the Snuza Hero is a great device that parents should very much consider. The price tag of $119.99 will be the only wild card factor for some, the investment choice is something you’ll have to make for yourself.
