Virtual Reality still seems a ways off from mass market appeal, Oculus Rift is trying to make headway into the space and so is Samsung. Samsung is soldiering forward with the new Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition that they have just announced for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. Of course, this will only be good for those of you who happen to have ordered a Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge and have some extra cash laying around.
“The Gear VR Innovator Edition for S6, compatible with both the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, will be available for preorder starting Friday, April 24, at BestBuy.com, and available for purchase online at Samsung.com/GearVR and BestBuy.com on Friday, May 8. Powered by Oculus, the latest Gear VR broadens the reach of mobile virtual reality and offers Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge users the opportunity to immerse themselves in new worlds and experiences”, says Samsung.
I’m still of the opinion that devices like the Gear and Oculus are still a ways off from mass appeal. Price points still need to come down and there has to be a way for multiple devices to work on one platform. Still, the Gear VR Innovator is a neat luxury item that some will get some enjoyment from. Virtual reality is here to stay, the question that remains is how fast will it grow into a viable market and how low can they bring pricing. What do you think of the Samsung Gear VR Innovator?
