Go On Vacation With The Next Generation Of The Griswolds

|

At the risk of dating myself, 1983’s National Lampoon’s Vacation and the following sequels were always a great source of laughs for me growing up. When I heard they were remaking the original, I couldn’t help but wonder – once again – why Hollywood can’t leave well enough alone and come up with original ideas.

Well, the Vacation Red Band Trailer – that means not suitable for you young ‘uns out there – has dropped and I have to admit, this movie looks insanely hilarious. Check it out below.

While the plot of the movie involves a trip to Wally World and there are some scene-for-scene recreations, instead of a full on remake it appears New Line Cinema has taken the continuation story route and we’re treated to a grown up Rusty Griswold wanting to take his family across country in hopes of re-living the Wally World trip of his youth. The trailer is full of one-liners and obvious digs at the original Vacation – “I’ve never even heard of the original Vacation”, but if the comeback is any indication then “It doesn’t matter – the new Vacation will stand on its own” and if the trailer is any indication, it just might.

Vacation features cameos from Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo from the original and stars Ed Helms, Christina Applegate, Chris Hemsworth, Leslie Mann, amongst others, and is set to hit theatres this July 29th. I know I’ll be checking it out, unfortunately I don’t think my kids will be adding this to their list of childhood movie memories.
