Maybe Sense8 Would Be Better On P***hub Rather Than Netflix

OK, I think you’ve mostly grasped the gist of this article/review from the headline alone so I am just going to get into it fairly quickly. I finally caught the first episode of my long-awaited Netflix original series, Sense8. I’ve been frothing at the mouth about this show for months because after reading about it and watching the trailer, I was very much interested in the premise and plot of the show. So I have to say that I am hugely disappointed after that first episode and I am sitting here writing this as the second episode is playing because I thought I was watching Netflix, not P***hub. I’ll get into that aspect in a second.

First, let’s discuss the long-drawn-out character building that took over an hour to accomplish. I fully understand the need to build characters and their linkage within a story, especially given the number of characters in this show. But come on, there was entirely too much jumping between characters and then jumping between their flashbacks. It was like watching someone’s poorly cut home movie on Windows Movie Maker. I felt they were trying way too hard to be “artsy,” which is fine if you want to grab that demographic, but the majority of Netflix users are likely not them. Then there’s the pointless scenes to further “build” the character. Most of them involved s*x and dripping d***os which leads me to believe that this show is better suited to P***hub than Netflix.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m fine with nudity and s*x in films, it’s not really what I am looking for when I go to watch movies and TV, but if it’s tastefully done and is part of the story then I am fine with it. I feel Sense8 was more about the shock factor than about telling a story. Those scenes were placed there more as an FU than an important part of the story. I really wanted to like this show and I even gave it into the 2nd episode, but nothing has really changed. It’s slow to build and make any “sense” of who’s who, what’s what and why, and seems to focus more on shock factor and gratuitous s*x than telling the story of how these individuals are linked. Really bummed that I’m going to have to dump this series to the curb because I expected much more from Netflix.
