It looks like Marvel is getting phase 2 of their Marvel Television Universe underway as they’ve cast Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher, for season 2 of Marvel’s Daredevil. It’s rumoured that The Punisher, and a few other Marvel superheroes will be getting their own Netflix series after Marvel releases its upcoming Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage series and having him join Daredevil is a good way to introduce the character to viewers.
“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences,” said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television. “Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”
Bernthal previously had roles in AMC’s The Walking Dead, as well as Wolf of Wall Street, and Fury. As The Punisher, he’ll join Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil, in cleaning up Hell’s Kitchen but it remains to be seen if they’ll be teaming up or butting heads as those familiar with The Punisher know just how hardcore his tactics can be. Bernthal joins cast members Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, and Rosario Dawson in Marvel’s Daredevil which has received fairly positive reviews and is currently streaming on Netflix.
