Imagine a world where you could whip out your pen, ‘write’ on any surface and the results immediately appear on your tablet or phone. No paper needed.
OTM Technologies is currently developing prototypes for the Phree pen, which are being funded through Kickstarter. As the people behind the Phree say:
“We live in a world of screens. But writing or drawing on them isn’t always spontaneous and doesn’t always feel natural, especially if they’re put away somewhere. Screens are useful, sure. We love our screens, too. But sometimes, they’re just too limiting.
Phree lets you write, draw, annotate, and express yourself in countless other ways. On virtually any surface.”
Phree looks like an oversized pen with a nib that works for right or left-handed people and a small screen (from which you can apparently send short texts). It connects to any phone or tablet through Bluetooth and can even act as a headset.
The team behind the Phree assert that its Optical Translation Measurement technology, which quickly analyses what is written and transfers it, means that users will see writing appear on the screen in an “eye blink”.
Additional design features are a case and cap which can be quickly put together as a stand for your tablet or phone and wireless charging.
OTM Technologies is planning to continue design and testing of the Phree throughout 2015, with the aim of going into production in the first quarter of 2016. They claim that the Phree will connect to any device which uses Bluetooth and that is is already compatible with apps such as Office, OneNote and EverNote.
