Chevrolet Introduces In Car Smartphone Cooling System

Chevrolet is introducing a new system that will help smartphone owners keep their devices cool preserving battery life and efficiency of charging. Chevrolet is calling the new feature the “Active Phone Cooling” system and as you may assume, it is connected to the cars air conditioning system. Smartphone batteries don’t tend to perform well when under extreme heat and placing your device on the APC will help relieve some pressure on it.

“Over time, regular overheating can do permanent damage to the lithium ion batteries that power our smartphones. I always recommend keeping your phone in a cool, ventilated place, where it can stay at a comfortable room temperature, whether it’s charging or discharging,” said Jeffrey Van Camp, deputy editor of Digital Trends was quoted as saying by the report.

It’s a pretty good solution to an obvious problem but the question is, with so many smartphone sizes will it be adjustable? Perhaps Chevrolet would consider incorporating wireless and wired charging into the APC system, that would make it that much more convenient. Whatever they do with this it really needs to be more than just a spot to dump your phone, more functionality and thought should go into the design to maximize usability for the user.
