Fresh off the release of what he claims is the last Pink Floyd album to be made (The Endless River), David Gilmour has released the first single from his new album Rattle That Lock. Gilmour also revealed his North American tour dates which are sparse so you can bet tickets are going to be extra hard to get not to mention scalpers will have a field day with this one. Take a look and listen to Gilmour’s single release below Rattle That Lock.

Gilmour has forever been my favorite guitar player and continues to hold that spot. This particular single reminds me of his earlier effort, About Face, with a little 80’s Pink Floyd influence. Overall it has a very 80’s sound harkening back to Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel but with that classic David Gilmour guitar sound. I am excited to hear the rest of the album, while I liked The Endless River (the last Floyd album) it took some time for it to grow on me. Something that usually doesn’t happen with Floyd albums. Gilmour’s last effort On An Island was amazing and struck me almost immediately, I’m hoping for the same from Rattle That Lock. Gilmour spoke a little bit about the inspiration behind the song and the album.

“It’s a jingle, a four-note jingle, and every time I heard it, it would make me want to start dancing,” Gilmour says in a making-of video for the single. Gilmour’s wife and novelist Polly Samson contributed the track’s lyrics. “It’s about a journey, but it’s also about that journey of not accepting the status quo,” Samson said. “It’s based on two journeys, both inspired by Paradise Lost.”

However it turns out, Gilmour and Floyd fans in North America are sure to be excited that he’ll be here next year, bummer is, it won’t be for long. Rattle That Lock is expected to be released September 18, 2015 and the tour will start March 24, 2016 with only four dates on the calendar.
