Can The Chinese Made Youxia X Compete With Tesla?

Tesla has been the darling of the electric car world for a few years now and so has founder Elon Musk. But there’s a new player in town in the form of the Youxia X from Chinese company Youxia. Taking a first look at the Youxia X you’re instantly reminded of Tesla’s Model S. The front grill is strikingly similar to Musk’s design with the exception of the glowing red LED’s in the front. Yeah, what are those about? Apparently designer and creator of the Youxia X, Huang Xiuyuan, is a huge fan of Knight Rider and model the front LED pattern after KITT. There are other design cues he added in to honor his inspiration but the car still looks a lot like a Tesla.

The dashboard sports a 17.3″ touchscreen display and the computer system is running what Xiuyuan calls “KITT OS” based off of Android 5.0 Lollipop. Xiuyuan promises there will be iOS integration as well as Android. The system allows you to pick an engine sound since the electric motors are nearly silent, that is if you want the roar of an engine inside the car. The engine is a 348hp with the option of a 40 kWh, 60 kWh or 85 kWh battery and the range is around 168 miles. If you have a supercharger it will take half an hour to top off the battery. The Youxia X will be priced in about 200,000-300,000 yuan ($32,000-$48,000US) but no word if these will even be available in the US or EU.

It will be interesting to see if Tesla and Elon Musk have any reaction to this new player in the game.

What do you think of the Youxia X? Tesla ripoff? Or viable competition? Let us know in the comments below or on Google+, Facebook and Twitter.
