Like it or not, the age of artificial intelligence (AI) is coming and in some ways is already here. The use of AI robots is something that is going to revolutionize the world. But revolutions come with two sides, the good and the bad. Steve Wozniak, Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk all agree that we have to try and prevent the bad while the technology is still young. They, among others, are calling for a full ban on AI research and technology being used in military applications intended for life termination (killer robots). In an open letter they expressed their concern for the abuse of this technology and their desire for it to be used for the good of mankind not to destroy each other.
“Autonomous weapons are ideal for tasks such as assassinations, destabilizing nations, subduing populations and selectively killing a particular ethnic group.”
“We therefore believe that a military AI arms race would not be beneficial for humanity.”
“We believe that AI has great potential to benefit humanity in many ways, and that the goal of the field should be to do so. Starting a military AI arms race is a bad idea, and should be prevented by a ban on offensive autonomous weapons beyond meaningful human control.”
Science and technology are important to the growth and evolution of the human race but the sad fact is, a good portion of science and technology efforts are government funded and we know government priorities are much different than that of the people. We can only hope that the words of these men are taken to heart and military AI robots used to kill never see the light of day.[button link=”http://www.inquisitr.com/2288662/stephen-hawking-elon-musk-others-say-killer-robots-with-ai-must-be-banned/” icon=”fa-external-link” side=”left” target=”blank” color=”285b5e” textcolor=”ffffff”]Source: Inquisitr[/button] [button link=”http://futureoflife.org/AI/open_letter_autonomous_weapons” icon=”fa-external-link” side=”left” target=”blank” color=”285b5e” textcolor=”ffffff”]Source: Future Of Life[/button] image courtesy wallpaperup.com
