BlackBerry Passport Silver Edition Rumored To Run Android

The new BlackBerry Venice has been leaked multiple times and we know it is running Android, the first BlackBerry hardware to run the OS. But now new rumors are surfacing that the new BlackBerry Passport Silver Edition is likely going to be running Android as well. Could this be the end of BlackBerry’s OS? It very well could be as the company is working with Google to make Android more secure for enterprise use. Many have said BlackBerry should have done this years ago instead of clinging to an antiquated OS. BlackBerry’s hardware has always been nice and yes, despite a vocal minority that say physical keyboards are out, there are still some who desire them.

“We only build secure phones, and BlackBerry is the most secure phone. If I can find a way to secure the Android phone, I will also build that,” Chen said.

It remains to be seen what will happen with an Android/BlackBerry device and if consumers are ready for such a thing. The Venice is probably going to be the device that will test the waters on both consumer acceptance and overall OS security that Chen desires. If the Venice takes off, the rumored Passport Silver with Android may indeed be a reality.
