Amazon Underground For Android Launches

It appears Amazon has launched a new app for Android called, Amazon Underground. There was no official announcement or blog post giving any sort of description or purpose but from the looks of it, this is a free app aggregator. A place to gather all the free apps, books, comics and other free things offered by Amazon to Android users. Other than convenience for the user it’s not really clear as to why Amazon would want you to have another application on your phone besides the Amazon AppStore.

Amazon releases a statement, of sorts.

According to blog Gadgtspot, Amazon has also killed the Free App of The Day program with Amazon saying.

I’m sorry; the Amazon Appstore is no longer offering a Free App of the Day. The feature is no longer available. However, you can still find free applications within the Amazon Appstore by viewing the “Top Free” apps, as well as by filtering your search results to “Free” apps. We hope to see you again soon.

In Amazon Underground, you will find 100% free versions of popular titles like Frozen Free Fall, Star Wars Rebels: Missions, OfficeSuite Professional 8, Goat Simulator, Angry Birds Slingshot Stella and many more.

To get Amazon Underground you first have to visit this link on your phone https://www.amazon.com/underground and enter your email or phone number for a link to the APK to be sent to your phone. Then follow the steps below to get it all setup. Overall this seems like a good idea for those of you who use the Amazon AppStore and who tend to browse for free apps a lot. It seems though, that you can still find these apps without having this one installed through the Amazon AppStore. Perhaps Amazon is going to offer exclusive deals through Amazon Underground? That’s not known just yet.
