Jason Statham To Bring Layer Cake Follow Up To TV

|

Jason Statham has somehow figured out the formula to making a decent action movie. Have someone mess with an aspect of your life — be it family, things, etc. —systematically beat the crap out anyone in your way after they mess with your stuff, call it a day. We’re entertained, Statham is that much richer, and it’s a win-win for all involved.

But that can only last for so long. At some point, you wan to grow as an actor. Whether it’s a comedy like SPY, or say, jumping into television, actors like to do different things. As such,

We’re seeing Jason Statham take on his first ever television role. Gaumont International Television announced that Statham will headline a new action thriller series Viva La Madness. The new series acts as a follow-up to 2004 movie-adapted Layer Cake and is based on a book of the same name by J.J. Connolly.

Statham will be at the heart of the story, playing an anonymous hero stuck in the Caribbean. He is looking to embrace his criminal past, but he can’t go home as he’s a wanted man. During his time in the Caribbean, he hooks up with a pair of gangsters out of London and trouble ensues.

Given Statham’s previous forays into such areas, including Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels by Guy Ritchie, it should be a fitting role for the English actor. A network has yet to pick the show up, but Gaumont has had a few of his shows picked up including Hannibal on NBC and Hemlock Grove and Narcos on Netflix.

Given the 10-hour/episode format that makes up Viva La Madness, this could definitely be in Netflix’s wheelhouse. Would you watch a TV show staring Jason Statham? If so, where would you prefer to see him? Let us know in the comments below or on social media.
