Star Wars Battlefront First Impressions: November 17 Can’t Come Soon Enough

You walk out of the Hoth Rebel base to see two massive AT-ATs in the distance slowly closing in. Looking up you see a battle between X-Wings and Tie Fighters taking place as AT-ST are quickly advancing on your position. You run through the snowy trenches as you activate links allowing Y-Wings to target the AT-ATs while you find a smart rocket. You quickly pop out and launch it at one of the chicken walkers taking it down.  You look for your teammates but you see they’re busy fighting off Darth Vader as he is choking them with the Force and blocking their blaster shots with his lightsaber. You use your jet back to get to a higher vantage point and pull out your sniper and start putting shots into Darth until you and your teammates take him down and then focus on stopping the imminent AT-AT attack.

Take on AT-ATs, AT-STs, and more!

That is what it is like playing the Star Wars Battlefront beta. The massive 20 v 20 multiplayer mode has little to no lag and the powerups that you can find are quite fun. You can fly a Tie Fighter, Tie Interceptor, AT-ST, AT-AT, X-Wing, A-Wing, a speeder ship to trip the AT-ATs, or can find hero powerups to become either Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader for a short time. There are also weapon powerups for grenades, rocket launchers, bubble shields, and proximity mines.

The first person shooter combat is fun and fast paced and the air combat is even faster paced. You can respawn at one of the spawn points or you can respawn on your partner if they’re not in a ship. You earn credits that let you unlock different blasters and perks along the way. You can set up your hand which is 3 perks that range from your special ability, to jet packs, grenades, snipers, personal shields, and others.

The beta is limited to level 5 which you can get to after a few games but the replay value seems to be there. It is a lot of fun and very fast paced and you don’t feel like you’re out of the action for very long with the 20 on 20 gamemode. I was mildly excited to pick up Star Wars Battlefront but now after playing this I cannot wait for the full game to be here.

The beta launched yesterday and runs through this weekend on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Have you taken it for a spin yet? Let us know what you think so far in the comments below, or on Google+, Twitter, or Facebook.
