Star Wars: The Force Awakens Won’t Be Disney-fied, Abrams Has Final Cut

|

Star Wars fans can breathe a sigh of relief as J.J. Abrams recently revealed that he has control over the final cut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and says the studio is “not trying to Disney-fy” the next installment in the saga.

Abrams and Apple designer Jony Ive had a recent conversation for Vanity Fair that was moderated by Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer. During the video, Abrams was asked by Grazer if he had the final cut – usually the last say in edits – on The Force Awakens to which he responded “Yeah, yeah,” but was quick to add that “when you do a Disney project, there’s a clause in there that you kind of go, ‘Well, if I were a lawyer I could probably drive a truck through it…”

Depending who you are, this could be a good or a bad thing, but given J.J. Abrams’ previous outings, this news bodes well for Star Wars fans who may have been worried that Disney might be trying to soften the series down. Abrams also appears to be happy working with Disney on the movie, and had this to say:

“And they’re not trying to Disney-fy it, they’re not doing anything other than, I think, an incredibly smart thing, which is letting Kathleen Kennedy — who is a remarkable person and producer — run and lead Lucasfilm to a place where I think it wants to go.”

Check out the full conversation below if you’re so inclined.

So I guess we’ll have to wait and see what Abrams’ final cut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens looks like on December 18th (or 17th if you’re lucky). What do you think about what Abrams had to say? Let us know in the comments below, or on Google+, Twitter, or Facebook.
