[Updated] – Fantastic Four Could Be Going To Marvel In New Deal

Updated (10/15/2015 – 11:02 a.m. MST) It appears one site, Collider, has squashed the rumor that the Fantastic Four could be heading to Marvel given Fox already had television rights to X-Men. We’ll keep you updated if we find out more.

Original Story:

It’s hard to call the new Fantastic Four reboot anything other than a flop. The movie that cost $120 million to produce only brought in $26.2 million domestically in its first weekend. It got such terrible reviews that the director Josh Trank washed his hands of it. Perhaps it’s all for the best though, as Marvel is in talks with Fox to bring the hero team to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Now, if you’re like me, you’re hopeful this rumor pans out but as with all rumors we’ll have to wait for official confirmation from the parties involved before we get too excited.

That being said, the rumors suggest that we’ll see an MCU variant of Fantastic Four sometime in 2020.

If the rumor pans out, the deal would work out in Fox’s favor as well, as the production company would gain access to X-Men television rights. But that’s not it for the MCU.

Marvel would gain access to Galactus and Doctor Doom and the galactic surfer Silver Surfer. Personally, I’d be extremely excited to see what Marvel can do with Silver Surfer. Galactus and Doctor Doom would also be allowed to appear elsewhere in the MCU, which could make phase four and beyond exciting.

As far as the X-Men TV show is concerned, it’s not just limited to one series. Fox would work on two TV shows, Hellfire and Legion. So it sounds like it’d be win-win for everyone involved. Marvel gets Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, Galactus and Doctor Doom while Fox gets X-Men TV rights.

According to the rumor, the new Fantastic Four movie will be one of the three untitled MCU movies that are supposed to come out within the next five years. Maybe once Chris Evans is done with his role as Captain America, he can go back to his first role in Marvel comics as the Human Torch Johnny Storm. What do you think?
