In the middle of last month, we found out about a new subscription box by Outer Places. This month’s science and sci-fi themed box took on The Martian in its first theme and Supply Pod: The Martian edition offers some awesome goodies. As you readers know, we here at Techaeris love subscription boxes and we jumped at the opportunity to take a look at what’s in the box.

For those who don’t know, the Supply Pod comes in two different versions, the essential pod comes in at $29.99 and the deluxe pod comes in at $10 more. We were lucky enough to snag a deluxe edition that came with the added paperback copy of Andy Weir’s The Martian. Let’s take a look at what’s inside.

AVP: Fire and Stone No. 1

SupplyPodAVP

Who doesn’t love Alien Versus Predator? The Supply Pod comes with the No. 1 issue of AVP: Fire and Stone. Written by Christopher Sebela, the story pits a mercenary crew in the middle of a deadly struggle between “predator and prey.”

The Martian Novel and “I’m pretty much f#$@ed” bookmark

SupplyPodBookandMark

Like we said before, the deluxe pod came with the paperback version of The Martian, a novel written in journal form highlighting the struggle of an astronaut Mark Watney who was stranded on Mars. As if that weren’t enough, the folks at Outer Places threw in a bookmark with Watney’s famous one-liner.

Astronaut Ice Cream Sandwich

SupplyPodICS

Outer Places gives subscribers a taste of space food with a freeze dried ice cream sandwich. While a little on the crunchy side, the ice cream sandwich packs that well-known flavor, without a lot of the mess.

Spaceman Magnifier

SupplyPodKeyChain

A keychain for those who need to shed some light and get a closer look at something. The keychain is small enough that you can take it anywhere.

Luci EMRG inflatable solar light

SupplyPodLight

Whether its on Mars or out in the wild, batteries may be hard to come by. Worry not though as the Luci EMRG light is solar powered and will last up to 10 years.

Where is your next home? poster

SupplyPodPoster

As man looks to the stars, the question on whether or not there’s a planet out there that can support human life has been raised. Thanks to two different telescopes we’re now getting an idea of just what kind of planets are out there. Now you can, too, with this handy poster.

Shuttle Glider and Mars Rock

SupplyPodRockGlider

Mark Watney had what was left by his fellow crew members to pass the time when he wasn’t calculating how to keep alive on Mars, now you have your very own NASA space glider to pass the time. As if that weren’t enough, Outer Places threw in a chance to snag your very own Martian rock.

Green Science Weather Station

SupplyPodWeather

Get a chance at keeping an eye on the weather — and learn about the greenhouse effect — with your very own weather station.

And that about wraps it up. I have to admit, when I first heard about the box, I was a bit miffed at the price. That being said, doubts about the price were gone the moment I opened the box up. Outer Places packed the box with a lot of items and the value, in my opinion, in my opinion makes this a subscription box that gives you a lot of bang for your buck.

The folks at Outer Places are working on a new box for the month of December with a theme of Star Wars. Given what we saw from its first box, we can expect this next one to be packed with a lot of goodies. So if you haven’t yet, I recommend picking up a subscription and checking it out.

Also, in conjunction with MOARGeek, Outer Places is offering readers a chance to save 10 percent on their order. Enter MoarGeek10 at check out and you’ll receive the discount. So seriously, go give the Supply Pod a whirl. You won’t be sorry.
