Toshiba has unveiled the Canvio® Premium series of portable hard disk drives which feature both USB Type-A and USB Type-C compatibility, providing a convenient and user-friendly storage option compatible with both conventional USB 3.0 devices and new USB Type-C devices. The dual compatibility is achieved through the inclusion of an onboard adapter which allows the drives to integrate seamlessly into existing ecosystems without the need to purchase new hardware.

The company also announced the TransMemory® EX Dual, a dual port Type-A and Type-C flash drive engineered for quick and easy transfers between devices. The TransMemory EX Dual features a dual interface with both USB Type-A and USB Type-C ports, and supports read speeds up to 95MB/s and write speeds up to 80MB/s, allowing users to quickly transfer documents, photos, and videos between their devices.

“USB Type-C is slated to become the new standard in universal connectors,” said Maciek Brzeski, Vice President Branded Storage Products, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Products Division, “Although widespread adoption is still in its infancy, we’ve designed the Canvio Premium and TransMemory EX Dual devices to be compatible with this technology so that our users can bridge the gap between their existing hardware and the latest high-end machines.
