#WheresRey Asks Why Hasbro Left Rey Out Of Star Wars Monopoly

If you’ve seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens — I mean c’mon who hasn’t by now? — you know who the major players are. Fans of the movie and a favourite board game are being forced to ask #WheresRey as she’s not one of the playable tokens in Hasbro’s latest edition of Star Wars Monopoly.

The playable characters are Luke Skywalker, Finn, Kylo Ren, and the original Star Wars baddie, Darth Vader. Of course Rey’s omission from the game given her key role in the movie has taken Twitter by storm, as users are asking #WheresRey and even admonishing Hasbro for her being MIA from the Monopoly game.

The new Star Wars Monopoly doesn’t feature Rey.

*** NOTE: Minor spoilers follow this point — you’ve been warned! ***

The move by Hasbro has some people bringing up the fact that Rey is missing in other Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise as well, and brings up similarities when Black Widow figures were omitted from Avengers merchandise recently as well.

According to a Hasbro statement sent to Mashable, Rey was omitted as the game released back in September and they wanted to avoid giving away a key plot point, and at the same time pointed out the merchandise Rey is available in.

“The Star Wars: Monopoly game was released in September, months before the movie’s release, and Rey was not included to avoid revealing a key plot line that she takes on Kylo Ren and joins the Rebel Alliance. Rey is featured in the following Star Wars games: Hands Down, Guess Who and Chess as well as our 6” Black Series figures, 3 3/4” Figures and Vehicles, Black Series Titanium and Micromachines. Additionally, fans will see more Rey product hitting store shelves this month, including 6″ and 12″ Rey action figures. We are thrilled with the popularity of this compelling character and will continue to look for ways to showcase Rey across all of our product lines.”

I guess that explains why Luke Skywalker (who had a small appearance) and Darth Vader (if you can count his melted mask as an appearance) are both playable tokens in the game… no key plot lines to reveal there.

Personally I think Rey and Finn alongside Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma would have been better tokens for the game. What do you think about the omission of Rey in the latest Star Wars Monopoly game? Do you buy Hasbro’s excuse, or is this just much ado about nothing? Let us know in the comments below, or on Google+, Facebook, or Twitter.
