Hot off the heels of a great opening weekend for one Marvel character, Netflix has released the first of two scheduled trailers for Daredevil Season 2, and this trailer is all about the Punisher. We see a healthy dose of Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, and see a bit of about how Netflix plans to tell his backstory. Without further ado, let’s get to the trailer!
You can see pretty early on that Castle and Matt Murdock aren’t going to get along, at least not initially. Castle is hunting down gang members, as the police say, with military precision. Where Daredevil keeps criminals alive so that they can face justice, the Punisher has no qualms about finishing the job.
While we know that the Punisher should ultimately end up becoming somewhat of an antihero, this trailer indicates that Castle may just be the antagonist for Daredevil Season 2. We’re definitely going to see some of the ideological differences between these two main characters, and after calling Daredevil a “half-measure” and a “coward,” Castle eventually sums up his feelings about Daredevil’s leniency, and the delicate line that he’s walking with one final thought: “You know you’re one bad day away from being me.”
A fight between these two heavyweights would be awesome enough, but based on what we’ve seen from Daredevil season 1, this clash ought to be incredible. The fight scenes from season 1 give season 2 a tough act to follow, but I think they’ll be up to the job.
Oh, and if that setup wasn’t enough to get you excited… we get one quick look at another character joining the cast this season when Murdock runs into Elektra (Elodie Yung). Exciting times ahead for sure.
