Toyota Creates The Ultimate Electric Soapbox Derby Car

OK, so a real soapbox derby car isn’t going to be electric poweredir?source=bk&t=techaeris 20&bm id=default&l=ktl&linkId=8b54e105d5a84b02bd651db219b9bb99& cb=1457359138678 cause that kind of defeats the purpose of building a sopabox derby car (in my mind). But Toyota’s latest creation sure screams soapbox derby car in its looks and it looks amazing. The Setsuna concept car is unlike any other concept or electric car out there and it was conceived by Toyota’s chief engineer Kenji Tsuji, and Kota Nezu of znug design. Due to be officially unveiled at Design Week in Milan, Italy, the Setsuna roadster’s chassis and core body parts are made of wood.

No nails or screws were used to construct the electric car just pieces of Japaneseir?source=bk&t=techaeris 20&bm id=default&l=ktl&linkId=cdfdb134095a8d068880318084e07870& cb=1457359151762 ceder, birch and elm wood that are molded into concave and convex shapes and hold together. Of course the entire car isn’t made of wood and there are metals and other natural materials included. But the designers really did an amazing job of combining the wood and natural materials with the non-organic components of the vehicle.

We’re thinking Toyota has no plans on marketing this vehicle and this is purely an exercise in beautiful engineering mixed with whimsical design. I’m certain we’ll get more information and tech specifications when the vehicle is unveiled at Design Week in Milanir?source=bk&t=techaeris 20&bm id=default&l=ktl&linkId=48f273377e186453dd4d6e1ae8fd487c& cb=1457359168006. For now we’ll just have to enjoy the amazing photo above and hope that someone has a chance to film this in action.
