Qantas vs Tesla: The Leviathan Showdown

|
,

Qantas vs Tesla, a showdown between a leviathan of the sky and a leviathan of automotive innovation on the ground. Who would win? The answer to that can be found in the video below as Qantas put up their massive Boeing 737 against Elon Musk’s Tesla Model S. In one corner you have the Boeing 737 weighing in at approximately 72,500 lbs. with no cargo. The Tesla Model S has the weight advantage coming in at a slim and svelte 4900 lbs. (P85D model). The Qantas Boeing is powered by two turbo fan jet engines which give it a max speed of 580 mph. The Tesla Model S (P85D) is powered by two 188 hp electric motors that push the car to 60 in around 2.8 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph. Find out how the showdown ends up below.

The obvious weight advantage and the off-the-line advantage goes to Tesla in this contest, but those massive twin engines on the Qantas were impressive. Most of the showdown was pretty much neck-and-neck, but there was one important thing that happened at the end that puts the Tesla second. The 737 actually got off the ground and flew. Sorry Elon. Maybe bring something from the Space X project next time. All joking aside, that was pretty awesome to see, and the race really went as I expected it to. I figured the Model S would get off the line much faster, but the 737 would eventually catch up. That had to be loads of fun for the pilot and driver as well.
