Moko Full Body Rugged Holster Cover Review: Great Protection For Your Smartphone

We’ve said it many times before here on Techaeris, but when you get a new smartphone, you’ll probably want to protect your (usually) expensive investment. Having just picked up a Nexus 6P, I started the hunt for the perfect case. Our Moko Full Body Rugged Holster Cover review takes a look at a rugged heavy duty smartphone case which also has a belt clip holster for your smartphone.

Design

The Moko Full Body Rugged Holster Cover case has three main parts: the soft silicone inner layer (which is available in black, red, blue and purple), a hard polycarbonate outer layer which clips on over the corners and the two long sides of your phone, and the front swivel belt clip which clips into the outer layer. The inside of the swivel belt clip is covered in a soft felt material for additional screen protection. In addition, a built-in kickstand in the outer layer adds extra functionality for extra ease of use and ultimate convenience. The kickstand is right in the middle of the back of the case, and is wide enough and sturdy enough that it feels like it will last through many uses. It is a bit tight to extend, but in my opinion that’s a good thing so you don’t have to worry about it flopping open at random.

The kickstand is a nice added touch on this rugged smartphone cover.

The power and volume buttons are covered by the silicone inner layer, and there are cutouts for the headphone jack, USB port, fingerprint scanner, camera, and the laser autofocus sensor.

My only complaint with the design of the outer layer is that it would be nice to have at least one more “tab” above the power button to help keep the silicone inner layer in place. Don’t get me wrong, the inner layer does fit well and stays in place just fine but there are a few areas — notably the top, bottom, and above the power button — where it “peels” back  easily at a light touch. When it’s in the swivel belt clip however, the inner layer is firmly pressed against all edges of the phone.

Installation

Installation is as easy as most other smartphone cases out there, simply place the inner layer over your Nexus 6P (or other smartphone), then slide and snap the hard outer layer over it.

Protection

The soft silicone inner layer offers great protection against shock from bumps, as well as protects the sides and back from scratches. The inside of the inner layer features a hexagon pattern which provides a bit more cushion on the back of the phone. As mentioned previously, the hard PC outer shell clips on at each of the four corners and once on each of the two long sides of the phone, providing extra protection from accidental drops on the corners of your phone. The rugged look alone is enough to inspire confidence that your device would survive a drop with this case.

Price/Value

With a retail price of $39.99, the Moko Full Body Rugged Holster Cover is currently selling on Amazon for $8.99USD/$12.99CAD. For the price, you really can’t go wrong with this case, but I’d be hard pressed to shell out $40 for it.

Wrap-up

Moko’s Full Body Rugged Holster Cover is a fantastic, rugged, easy to use smartphone cover that comes with a belt/holster clip as well. While our review was for the Nexus 6P, Moko makes the case for a wide range of other devices as well.
