Here we are in 2016 and Apple sales and stock aren’t doing as well as the company and shareholders would like. They’re certainly not at the point of total failure mind you, but Tim Cook and the crew have some challenging times ahead. At the very least Apple isn’t where they found themselves in the mid 90’s when they experimented with licensing Mac OS to third party vendors. The Apple clone experiment lasted for a brief period of time.
Many companies made Apple clone machines and Apple themselves showed them how, and even provided the components to do so. Which brings us to the below cringe worthy Apple produced video. Filmed at Apple headquarters (One Infinite Loop) this video was meant to celebrate the Apple clone project. Set to the music of “I Think We’re Alone Now” this may be your laugh of the day.
This is obviously not how Apple wants you to remember their past. They’d rather we not go back past the introduction of the iPod, which ushered in all of the iDevices that followed. Apple has had great success with the iPod, iPhone and iPad and their Mac computers have also done well. This era of Apple clone machines was a dark time in the company’s history and someone at Apple HQ probably wishes this video would burn in the fires of Mount Doom.
Personally I can enjoy a good laugh at this and remember those days with fondness as well as know that Apple pulled themselves out of the rut they were in. Maybe with Apple sales slumping lately the company will consider another Apple clone program? Maybe not.
