After teasing a huge announcement for 9am this morning, Riotfest has released the first official band for the 2016 lineup in their Denver and Chicago locations: the original Misfits. 33 years and “20 eyes” after their last show together, Glenn Danzig will “Come Back” on stage with Jerry Only and Doyle Wolfgang von Frankestein once again.

The Misfits were founded in 1977 and became the breakout act of the horror punk and hardcore punk genres. The group dissolved in 1983 after Danzig had “Some Kind of Hate” and grown increasingly unhappy with the group and several legal battles ensued over the rights for the Misfits music. Danzig and Only reached an out-of-court settlement that allowed Only to keep touring and using the band’s original material while sharing merchandising rights with Danzig. The Misfits have had many members throughout their troubled history, but death never seemed to come ripping for the band entirely as they have continued through the years regardless. Glenn Danzig was the original singer and songwriter with Jimmy Battle on guitar, Diane DiPiazza on bass, and drummer Manny Martínez. While Jerry Only replaced DiPiazza, he’s still considered an original member since they didn’t record anything until Only joined.

The full lineup for both “Spook City USA” locations has yet to be released, the website FAQ page officially says it will be released “when it’s ready.” Riotfest Denver will take place on September 2nd, 3rd, and 4th at the National Western Complex while Riotfest Chicago takes place on September 16th, 17th, and 18th at Douglas Park. Early bird tickets for general admission and VIP admission are on sale now for both locations which you can find here for Denver and here for Chicago (the page loads terribly slowly so you might need to refresh it a time or two).

Founded in Chicago in 2005, Riotfest is a multi-day music festival specializing in punk, rock, alternative, metal, and hip-hop. Past artists have included Wu-Tang Clan, System of a Down, Rise Against, The Prodigy, Snoop Dogg, Iggy Pop, The Cure, Weezer, Blink 182, Rancid, Andrew WK, GWAR, and many more.
