Design
Tronsmart USB-C 30W Dual USB Car Charger
The Tronsmart USB-C 30W Dual USB Car Charger is constructed of black plastic and has an oval design on the end with the ports. The Tronsmart logo is on the top side, and there is one USB-C port with a single USB-A “Smart Detect” port beside it. It’s a pretty standard design for a dual-port car charger and fits nicely into your DC outlet in your vehicle, and it should fit no matter where your outlet is.
Tronsmart USB-C Cables
The Tronsmart USB-C cables are also pretty standard fare, and are constructed with a flexible cable with molded connectors at each end. The one detail that I really liked about the USB-C connectors was the tapered ends — the end towards the actual connector is narrower than the end connected to the cable itself, which gives you a better grip when disconnecting it from your smartphone or other USB-C device. The Tronsmart logo is printed on one USB-C connector end of each cable, and is pretty small and barely noticeable. The cables come in black or white, and when you order you get one of each, it would be nice to be able to specify 2x black or 2x white cables instead of one of each. The USB-C cables are also available singly as well if color really is a concern, but you’re definitely saving with the 2 cable packs.
It would also have been nice to see a braided cable, as that seems to be the route other companies are taking, but that’s more of a personal preference and I had no issues with the design of the Tronsmart cables themselves.
Tronsmart USB-C to Micro-USB Adapter
The Tronsmart USB-C to Micro-USB Adapters are pretty simple as well. One end consists of the male USB-C end, while the other end houses the female Micro-USB end with the Tronsmart logo printed on one side. Micro-USB cables fit snugly into the adapter, and the adapter features the same tapered design as the USB-C ends on the Tronsmart cables, although not quite as pronounced. It’s still enough to notice and give you an extra grip when removing the adapter from your USB-C devices. As with the cables, these come in a two pack with one being black and the other white.
Ease of Use
All of Tronsmart’s USB-C accessories were simple to use. There’s not much more to do than to plug them into the proper port and plug your smartphone or other device to them.
Performance
Tronsmart’s USB-C accessories worked as expected. The only thing I found was that when using the USB-A port on the car charger, I wasn’t getting a rapid charge to my Nexus 6P but that is something that the company does indicate in the product description. I had no issues getting a rapid charge when using a USB-C to USB-C cable in the charger. The cables worked fine for transferring data, and the Micro-USB adapter worked great for letting me use older Micro-USB cables with my Nexus 6P.
Price/Value
All of Tronsmart’s items are on sale on Amazon, as is often the case. The USB-C Dual Port Car Charger normally retails for $39.99USD and is currently selling for $17.99; the USB-C to USB-A cables are $11.99 for a pack of 2 (1 black and 1 white) 6′ cables (regular $24.99); the USB-C to USB-C cables will set you back $15.99 for 1 black and 1 white 6′ cable (regular $29.99); and finally the Micro-USB Adapters are on sale for $6.99 (regular $12.99) for a pair (again, 1 black and 1 white). At the sale prices, the Tronsmart USB-C accessories are reasonably priced.
