New on Netflix Canada: July brings Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Marco Polo, and much moreā€¦

Every once in awhile, Canada manages to get something that their U.S. neighbours donā€™t. In this case, our New on Netflix Canada July list will seeĀ Star Wars: The Force Awakens hit the streaming service in Canada along with other new and returning series. Youā€™ll have to wait until July 15th for the latest in theĀ Star WarsĀ saga, but letā€™s check out what other great contentĀ is coming toĀ Netflix Canada in July. Netflix OriginalĀ Series and Specials

July starts off running on July 1st with two new Netflix Original series, a new comedy special, and the return of Marco PoloĀ with its second season. Chronicling famed explorer Marco Poloā€™s 13th-century journey to Mongolia, this epic historical drama continues the story of Poloā€™s service in the court of legendary emperor Kublai Khan. Marco PoloĀ stars Lorenzo Richelmy, Benedict Wong, and Chin Han. If you havenā€™t watched the first season yet, nowā€™s the time to start so you can binge through season two right after.

DeepĀ isĀ the first of two new Netflix Original series debuting on July 1st. The show followsĀ a police investigator as he tracks the explosion of a new synthetic drug on the streets of Paris, whileĀ grappling with a life-threatening illness.

Set in contemporary London and starring Anna Friel, MarcellaĀ ā€“ from internationally renowned screenwriter and novelist Hans Rosenfeldt (The Bridge) ā€“ centers on the psychological struggles of a Metropolitan police officer at a crisis point in her personal life, driven by rejection and intuition. Her marriage just ended and sheā€™s returning to work as a London detective after 12 years away. Is the serial killer she once investigated back too?

For those looking for funnier fare on the first of the month,Ā Jim Jefferiesā€™ second Netflix special, Jim Jefferies: Freedumb rounds out the July 1st releases. In Freedumb, JeffriesĀ unleashes his signature, unapologetic take on a variety of topics that range from personal stories including how he is coping with fatherhood to political and social commentary about religion, freedom and even Bill Cosby. Freedumb was recorded in front of a sold out audience at Nashvilleā€™s James Polk Theater.

Another new Netflix Original Series, NSU German History XĀ hits the service on July 7th.Ā The discovery of two dead bank robbers in a burning motor home in 2011 blew the lid off the brutal killing spree of the National Socialist Underground. For 13 years, Uwe Boehnhardt, Uwe Mundlos, and Beate Zschaepe had been living outside the law. The trilogy NSU German History X, broadcast by the public German television channel ARD, follows the clues left by this criminal organization. Three films, shot from different perspectives, are designed to paint the complete picture of the state of affairs in Germany.

The first season of Stranger Things, starring Winona Ryder,Ā David Harbour, and Finn Wolfhard, debuts on Netflix Canada on July 15th. The Netflix OriginalĀ  is set in 1983 Indiana, where a young boy vanishes into thin air. As friends, family and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces, and one very strange little girl.

July 22nd sees the return of BoJack HorsemanĀ with its third season.Ā BoJack is certain heā€™s on the comeback trail as he promotes his starring turn in the film biography of Secretariat, the legendary racehorse. Despite the Oscar buzz surrounding the movie, BoJack worries about his artistic legacy.

Finally, new ScreamĀ episodes will be coming weekly on July 12th, 19th, and 26th.

Netflix Original Films and Documentaries

Three Netflix Original Films and two Netflix Original Documentaries are slated for July on Netflix Canada.

Set in Bangalore in the 1980s, the Netflix Original Film Brahman NamanĀ follows the exploits of Naman, a quick witted, high school quiz champ who leads his hopelessly nerdy friends on a trip to Calcutta to win a major college prize. Young, smart, and full of heart, the trio are determined to win the quizĀ ā€”Ā and to lose their virginity along the way.

The second Netflix Original Film, Rebirth, is set to stream on July 15th. In the film, long-lost buddy Zack gets suburban dad Kyle on a bus to a Rebirth seminar, sending him down a rabbit hole of psychodrama, seduction, and violence. Also on July 15th, the Netflix Original Documentary Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your GuruĀ hits the streaming service.Ā Filmed at Robbinsā€™ 2014 ā€œDate with Destinyā€ seminar in Boca Raton, Florida, I Am Not Your Guru follows what happens when 2,500 strangers converge in hopes of finding deeper connections with others and within themselves. Throughout the film, viewers get front row seats to Robbinsā€™ life altering and revealing one-on-one ā€œinterventionsā€ with attendeesĶ¾ his inspired and confidence building group exercisesĶ¾ and behind-the-scenes looks at how the enormous event comes together.

To finish up the month, the original filmĀ Tallulah and the original documentary Last Chance UĀ will debut on Netflix Canada. Starring Ellen Page, TallulahĀ follows a young drifter whoĀ impulsively kidnaps a baby from a neglectful mother and pretends the child is her own.Ā Last Chance UĀ documents elite athletes in tough life circumstances who struggle to keep up the pace on a champion community college football team.

Netflix Original Anime

Netflix has been working with studios to bring more original anime content to the streaming service, and July sees the debut of two new series. In KuromukuroĀ which starts streaming on July 4th,Ā a mysterious relic is discovered during the construction of a dam. In order to study the artifact, the United Nations Kurobe Research Institute is established. Scholars from all over the world gather here, their children attending Tateyama International High School. Among them is the Institute Directorā€™s daughter, Yukina Shirahane. In the summer of 2016, a samurai rises once again.

The second anime series to debut will launch on July 14th. In Magi: The Adventures of Sinbad, viewers are taken back toĀ years before he ascends the throne. After his father dies, his mother asks Yunan to take Sinbad under his wing.

Netflix Original Series For Kids

Where would we be without new content for kids? Two new Netflix Original Series for Kids and three returning series are coming in to Netflix Canada inĀ July.

Word Party, debuting on July 8th,Ā is a vocabulary building show from The Jim Henson Company that follows four adorable baby animals as they sing, dance and play. The show invites our youngest viewers to help teach the baby animals new words, practice these new words themselves, and celebrate these achievements with a ā€œWord Party!ā€ Word Party is produced using the groundbreaking Henson Digital Puppetry Studio, a proprietary technology from Jim Hensonā€™s Creature Shop that allows puppeteers to perform digitally animated characters in real time ā€”Ā enabling the animation to be more lifelike and spontaneous.

Everyoneā€™s favourite swashbuckling cat is back with season three of The Adventures of Puss in BootsĀ on July 15th. The third season of PopplesĀ comes to Netflix Canada on July 24th, and the second season of LEGO Bionicle: The Journey to OneĀ returns on July 29th.Ā A second new Netflix Original Series for Kids, Home: Adventures with Tip & Oh, debuts on July 29th. In the series, aĀ misfit alien named Oh moves in with Tip and her family, in a series that picks up the dynamic duoā€™s adventures where the hit film left off.
