ZTE’s Axon 7 aims to be the flagship killer killer

ZTE’s new Axon 7 has some impressive specs, with an even more impressive price of $399 for the entire unlocked package — and that should worry OnePlus. The design of the Axon 7 was a collaboration with BMW Group Designworks. From the photos, it looks very impressive in terms of design and build quality. Under the hood the specs look awesome as well. The latest Snapdragon 820, a Quad HD AMOLED display, lots of storage and RAM, and a giant 20MP sensor on the back. But that’s not all: the Axon 7 is also taking aim at the HTC 10 with some high quality audio offerings.

With two dedicated sound chips and enhanced software, professional third-party testing proves the Axon 7 headset and speaker output are significantly more powerful than the competition. Listeners will experience better sonic quality at lower listening levels and increased headroom to experience louder bass sounds and higher dynamic ranges.

Of course all the other goodies that you expect from flagship devices are there, including a fingerprint sensor, dual sim cards, and Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 USB Type-C. ZTE is also throwing in a case, screen protector and what they call “premium in-ear headphones.” The specs certainly are competing directly with the OnePlus 3, and the price is certainly a bullet aimed at OnePlus.

Both of these companies are rather small but if both the Axon 7 and the OnePlus 3 gain traction, that could influence larger phone makers to reconsider their prices. Of course the question of timely updates always comes up when new Android phones are introduced. We’re not sure how good ZTE is at timely updates but we do expect the Axon 7 to ship with Android 6.0. You can pick up the Axon 7 on ZTE’s website as well as Amazon and Best Buy soon.
