Samsung delays Note7 shipments for quality checks

Samsung has delayed shipping any more Galaxy Note7 devices so that the company can perform some quality checks. There is some speculation that Samsung is running some deeper quality checks due to reports of Note7 batteries exploding. No company likes to delay the shipping of a major flagship device due to quality issues but this is probably a prudent choice. While the delay of the Note7 shipments will have an impact on Samsung and sales of new Note 7 devices, continuing to ship defective devices would likely hurt the company even more.

“Shipments of the Galaxy Note7 are being delayed due to additional tests being conducted for product quality,” Samsung said in a statement to Reuters. The firm did not elaborate on what it is testing and to what markets shipments are being delayed.

While Samsung is tight-lipped on the reasons behind the delay, they’re probably looking at all angles including how current customers will be affected. It could potentially be disastrous if Samsung does discover a flaw that would mean a full recall of the Galaxy Note7. Samsung is hoping for a less impactful problem that might be isolated to small batches of the device. The Galaxy Note 7 has gotten rave reviews from tech sites and mainstream media as well and Samsung has done a ton to improve the quality of their devices and software.

Manufacturer defects of smartphones aren’t anything new, Apple and other companies have had to repair or issue recalls before and each time, each company hopes that those defects are limited to a small number of devices.
