Twitch reveals its new Prime membership

|

Back in 2014, Amazon bought Twitch and for the most part Twitch has been left alone and it has been able to continue to operate as its own company. However, this weekend in San Diego, the two worlds merged. During Twitch’s annual conference, TwitchCon, the video game streaming company announced that they will now offer a premium version of the site, Twitch Prime.

Essentially, if you have an Amazon Prime membership it now includes extra features within Twitch. Here’s some of what you get:

  • Free in-game loot every month, plus surprises
  • Ad-free viewing plus a free channel subscription every 30 days
  • 20% discount on new-release box games

This is on top of what you already get with Amazon Prime: free 2-day shipping, Prime Music, Prime Video, and more. Overall, this move feels like Amazon stretching out its branches into the video game world and making its Prime offering the go-to service for your media needs, and potentially eliminating other subs that one might have (Google Play Music, Netflix, Hulu, Apple Music).

What do you think? Will you subscribe and possibly get rid of your other services? What kind of games and in-game loot would you like to see? Let us know in the comments below, or on Google+, Twitter, or Facebook.
