Double-tap to wake not working on some Google Pixels, fix incoming

, ,

The Google Pixel series is Google’s first ever self-branded smartphone and the most expensive Google phone to date. While the phone is a premium device, it’s not surprising to see bugs and problems creeping up. The latest involves the Double-tap to wake feature not working on some Google Pixel phones for some users. Users have taken to the Pixel user community on Google Forums to discuss the problem, you can find more incidents there.

So I upgraded to the latest 7.1.1 and was very excited about the new moves, however…tap to wake just doesn’t work. Instead of tapping, I need to actually long press twice with between a .5 – 1-second pause between presses. This is soo disappointing. I have checked all the settings and cant see anything out of place or to be a cause of this, ambient display makes no difference. rebooted etc. From what I have seen on youtube videos, there is clearly something wrong with my implementation.

Google response:

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for your reporting your issues with the new gestures that were introduced in 7.1.1. We want to let you all know that the team is investigating, and working towards a future fix.

If you run into these (or other) issues in the future, please submit feedback through your device. You can do this by going to the Settings app Settings, and then About phone and then Send feedback about this device.

We’ll keep you all updated with any other information.

These issues are always bound to creep up on some but not all units and like Apple, it seems Google is responding quickly to the problem and attempting to replicate and repair. It’s always frustrating when a near $1,000USD piece of hardware has issues but hopefully, Google will have this one squashed soon as well.

Have you had double-tap to wake issues? Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+.
