If you were looking forward to bonding with dragons in PlatinumGames’ upcoming Xbox One exclusive Scalebound, you’re going to have to start looking elsewhere. After rumours started surfacing over the weekend as to the game’s fate, Microsoft Studios has officially cancelled the highly-anticipated 2017 cornerstone title. The game was announced at E3 2014, skipped E3 2015, and after a delay from 2016 to 2017 announcement, returned with new cooperative gameplay action at E3 2016.
The news was confirmed by an announcement by a Microsoft spokesperson on the main page of the Scalebound website.
Today, I have a difficult announcement to share that affects our fans, Microsoft Studios team and a valued partner. After careful deliberation, we have come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. This decision was not made lightly.
At Microsoft, we remain committed to making Xbox and Windows 10 the best places to play games, and look forward to bringing “Halo Wars 2”, “Crackdown 3”, “State of Decay 2”, “Sea of Thieves” and other great experiences to our fans.
In addition, other Scalebound assets like the official game trailer have been removed from YouTube. It’s almost as if Microsoft wants to forget that the game even existed in the first place.
