Satechi USB-C Power Meter looks to save your devices

|

Benson Leung was on a personal mission for awhile to validate and prove the performance (or lack thereof) for USB-C accessories. The #BensonApproved rallying cry became almost necessary for some people to trust a USB-C cable. The Satechi USB-C Power Meter wants to let you check your USB-C accessories yourself, letting you keep an eye out for any bad cables before they fry your devices.

The power meter sits in-line between your cable and your device, allowing you to see the current, voltage, and mAh being passed either to or from your device. If you are charging your device from a wall plug or external battery, the meter will show what is being passed through to your device. If anything looks too high or out of place you can quickly unplug the cable, potentially saving your device.

Similarly, if you are charging another device from your USB-C equipped laptop, you can see how much power your laptop is transferring to the charging device. You can see the meter in action in Satechi’s video below.

As you can see, the meter itself is quite small, and won’t take up a lot of room on your desk or in your laptop bag. Priced at $29.99 it won’t take too much of your money either. Retailers such as Amazon have taken a much tougher stance on shoddy cables, but it would just take that one bad cable slipping through to ruin your day.

The Satechi USB-C Power Meter is available now on Amazon as well as Satechi.net. You can read more about the Power Meter in the full press release below.
