Multiple user support card shows up for some Google Home users

Multiple user support for Google Home could be coming to users soon. That is if a generic card showing up in the Google Home app is an indicator. According to asusdroid, the Google Home app has been updated with an interesting added card, pictured below.

Apparently, the card has no functionality other than to be a placeholder but if the message is any indication, multiple users will soon be able to use Google Home. This means the Google Assistant should recognize different users giving them a catered experience. Each user would likely be able to load their own profiles and when Google Home is prompted by a user, it should know who it’s talking to.

Multiple user support would certainly give Google Home an advantage over Amazon’s Alexa. There have been rumblings that Apple is trying to make Siri a more serious competitor to both Google Home and Amazon Alexa and we still don’t know what they have up their sleeve.

Amazon’s Alexa has caught on and seems to be going mainstream and with Amazon opening Alexa up to be used in other devices, it’s certainly going to be a competition. Still, like wearables, not everyone is completely convinced or sold on a digital assistant in their home. Especially ones that are always listening and also deliver advertising through its interface. There’s still much work to be done by Google, Amazon, and Apple if the in-home assistant is going to be adopted en masse.

We’ll be reaching out to Google shortly for comment on this article and the possibility of multiple user support coming for Google Home. Should we hear back, we will update this article or create a new one.
