Another iPhone 8 leak — this time showing TouchID on back of phone

Here we go again, another iPhone 8 leak courtesy of the Chinese blogging site Weibo. This time around we’re staring at what appears to be an iPhone 8 with the home button and TouchID on the back. There are tons of Android phones on the market that have this sort of setup, minus a home button functionality, but it just looks out of place on the iPhone. Seeing the TouchID button on the back makes me suspect that Apple may not have been successful in integrating it into the glass.

There had been some rumors that the Home Button and TouchID would be worked into the bottom chin of the screen. Samsung was able to make this area work as a home button but was also not able to integrate a fingerprint scanner there and had to move it next to the camera on the back. The leaked schematic also shows thinner bezels all around but still nothing as svelte and sexy as what Samsung did with the S8+. This leak is said to have come out of Foxconn in China and many are pointing to the reference of EVT 03, saying these are not final plans.

The camera is also changed, though it looks like it’s just been flipped but looks exactly like what the iPhone 7 Plus has on board.

If the leak really does show an iPhone 8 design from Apple, it might not be the final choice for the company. 9to5Mac explains that we’re looking at an EVT 03 design, which is short for Engineering Validation Test third revision. EVT represents an early stage of a product’s design, and the device must still pass through a Device Validation Test and Production Validation Test before it’s finalized.

Hopefully, this isn’t the final design as, in my opinion, TouchID with the home button on the back looks awkward and not aesthetically pleasing to my eye. I’m sure there will be more leaks in the near future and we’ll probably start seeing the real deal closer to mid-summer.
