TA-ratings-93Battery life is a pretty important thing for many smartphone users and many times the included battery just isn’t enough. That’s why companies like ZeroLemon have helped fill a much-needed space with their battery cases. Battery cases work not only as extra power for your smartphone but they also protect it. They also keep you from being a wall-hugger, you know, the people tethered to the nearest wall outlet. Design

Battery cases are all pretty much the same with minor differences in aesthetic other than maybe materials and branding. The ZeroLemon is no different in this regard. That’s not to say it’s not a good looking design, it’s just pretty basic with nothing really overly stylish to it. The case is made up of a strong polycarbonate material that feels pretty rugged and tough. I think this thing could take a significant spill and protect your phone like a champ. There are two pieces to the case, the top portion is fairly small and is basically like a cap. You slide the phone into the lower portion of the case and then slide the cap portion over top and snap in place. The back of the case has the ZeroLemon branding as well as the button to activate charging your phone. This same button also shows you how much juice is left in the case via the LED indicators on the back.

Along the bottom chin, you have some vents that act as speaker grills. This basically fires the iPhone’s speakers forward which helps make the phone sound even better than it already sounds. You basically have two front firing stereo speakers with this case on. Along the bottom is the MicroUSB port for charging and this is my biggest complaint about this case. I wish they would have made this an MFi certified Lightning port so you could use your Lightning dongle to AUX adapter for wired headphones. This would also be helpful for other accessories I own that use Lightning connectors. The way it stands now, I have to take the phone out of the case to use Lightning connector accessories. It’s by no means a deal breaker but it would be nice to have in the next design. Overall the design is decent, it’s nothing super special but it’s functional and it will protect your phone.

Ease of Use

Be sure to charge the case fully before your first use, a good overnight charge should be sufficient. Once you have the case charged, just slide the iPhone into the bottom portion into the Lightning connector and then snap in the top portion. When you’re ready to start charging, just push the power button on the back of the case and the iPhone will start charging. The case will shut off once the iPhone is fully charged. Simple to use.

Battery Life

This will most certainly get you through a few days of use. I don’t generally need a battery case as I charge my phone nightly. But something like this is useful for events like CES where my phone is used much more often than normal. I can see this case getting me through 2 days, easy, at CES. I was able to use my phone for just over 3 days by utilizing the extra power of this case. Battery life is excellent. You can also charge both the phone and the case via the MicroUSB charging port so you don’t have to remove the phone to charge the case.

Price/Value

With a retail price is $99.99USD, you can pick this up on Amazon for $59.99USD as of this review. While $99.99USD is just about the normal price range for cases such as these, it’s a great must buy value at $59.99USD.

Wrap Up

If you need extra juice and don’t mind a little bulk but a nice price, then the ZeroLemon iPhone 7 Plus charging case is a great buy!
