JBL Boombox is a massive portable Bluetooth speaker

|

It’s getting increasingly difficult for companies to keep anything under wraps these days, and while rumours hit the smartphone industry the hardest, other devices get leaked ahead of official announcements as well. The JBL Boombox has been unveiled earlier than planned after winning a prestigious EISA Award earlier this month.

The JBL Xtreme remains one of my favourite Bluetooth speakers, especially for around the pool and for camping, but it looks like it may have met its match with the JBL Boombox. Featuring a 20,000 mAh battery for 24 hours of continuous playback (party all night anyone?), the Boombox is IPX7 waterproof rated, comes in at over 11 pounds and is nearly 20 inches long. The 20,000 mAh battery can also be used to charge not one but two devices as well with its dual USB ports.

With the JBL Boombox, big sound is key with four active transducers and two JBL bass radiators, an indoor mode for deeper bass and richer sound, and an outdoor mode for even bigger sound with stronger bass and longer play time. Not only can you connect up to two smartphones to stream from but you can also connect more than 100 JBL Connect+ enabled speakers wirelessly to provide even more sound. If the JBL Xtreme is any indication of sound quality, I can’t imagine what 100 of these bad boys connected would sound like…

The JBL Boombox is set to hit JBL.com and retailers this fall for $449.95 USD in Black or Forest Green.
